Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Okra and the Universe is a five-piece indie-folk and funk band known for a unique, high-energy sound that blends heavy banjo and harmonica with synthesizers and electric guitars. The group is led by the stellar and charismatic vocalist Sami Cooper, whose powerful voice and dance moves are guaranteed to get an audience moving. The band's eclectic instrumentation features Brian Cooper on lead guitar and banjo, delivering bluesy licks that "knock your socks off," alongside Casey Ausmus, a versatile performer on keys, harmonica, and accordion. This charismatic front line is anchored by a driving rhythm section consisting of Andre on electric bass and Clinton Scott on heavy-hitting drums. Together, the quintet has produced a distinct "funky folk" discography, including the album Good and Weevil and the standout track "Virginia Creeper".
